A period goes at the end of the sentence. "They went to see '16 Blocks' (2006)." I'm assuming that '16 Blocks' is the name of a film that was released in 2006, not that they necessarily went to see it in 2006.

The sentence can be constructed like this : In the year 2006, they went to see sixteen blocks.
