Does the asteroid Ceres have a chance of hitting Earth????
13 answers
I read somewhere online that says Ceres may have a chance of getting out of the asteroid belt and come onto a collision course with Earth at any moment. Is this true???

Define chance. I mean right now it is beyond the orbit of Mars in a stable orbit of its own. I have a better chance of hitting you than it does.

Not as long as it’s orbit is stable...

An almost non-existent chance, yes.

absolutely and totally false. You need a source of an unreasonable energy directed just right to alter the orbit, then miss Mars and the Moon As the dominant member of the asteroid belt Ceres is not going anywhere

Yes of course - a chance. About the same chance as a snowball surviving for 1 day in the lava lake of the nearest volcano

Yeah, right. And I'm the Pope's left ball. Look, lots gets written online, lots of it complete crap. Ask yourself WHO wrote this. Trust reliable sources only - on which point, you can't even remember what your source is.

How about citing your source. Instead of saying "I heard somewhere..."? But no, Ceres has a near zero chance of hitting Earth in the foreseeable future.
