Why can evolutionary pressures shift microbial populations quickly?

    Microrgainisms reproduce (asexually) very quickly. Like all orgainisms DNA mutates. In the case of bacteria, very quickly. And bacteria can also transfer DNA to another bacterium.

    Because microbes are single celled. Their DNA is easily accessible relative to humans, and any shifts in their DNA gets passed on to the progeny. That's not the case with animals.
