    Since we do have the technology to block most radiation, the question is moot.

    Because they got there and back quickly and were in fact affected by the radiation. For instance, they got cataracts earlier than other people.

    they do have some shielding, it's a reflective coating which allows most of the radiations to reflect. it kinda looks like a tin foil, although a very expensive one.
