You'll need to be good enough to: 1) get accepted to that university; and 2) make the club team. Many American universities offer club hockey.

First go on the university’s web site to see if they have a hockey team. Then you would need to be an enrolled student in order to try out for a team. There can be intermeral sport teams you can join, but once again you need to be an enrolled student
