What's the best way to deal with embarrassing memories of your past?

I said and did some very stupid things when I was a child/teen and the memories keep coming back. I relive them like it was yesterday and it causes me to "cringe." I feel a lot of shame. I know we all do dumb things and make mistakes, but I can't seem to get over this. Help?

How long would it take you to let this go? Am I having a normal reaction?
