you're out in a field flying your kite. you have just let out all 150m of your kite string. you estimate that the kite is at an angle of elevation from you of about 20 degrees. can you calculate the height of your kite above the ground?

  • Anonymous

    sin (20°) = x/150 150*sin(20°) = x Let x = height of kite 51.3 m = x

    sin 20 = x / 150 x = 150 sin 20 ⁰ x = 137 m_______to nearest whole number

If we estimate the kite string to be straight, then the kite, the person( considered as a point here) & the ground form a right triangle such that the height of the kite from the ground h is h=150sin(20*)=>h=51.3 m approximately.

    Using 150 times sin(20) = 51.3 m above ground

    sin 20º = height/hyp = h/150 h = 150 sin 20º = 51.3 m
