What does 0.01 mean?

Does it mean 1mm or 1 micrometer

Dunno because you've not appended units to the number. It could be .01 miles, .01 parsecs, .01 light years, .01 kilograms, .01 quarks, etc. etc. etc. .... But if we were to assume .01 meters, that's simply 1/100th of a meter. It's not 1 mm nor 1 micrometer. It's 1 cm, centimeter.

0.01 in itself has no meaning. It is just a number. You can interpret it as a position on a number line. A little more than 0.0 and a quite a bit less than 0.1 or a tiny bit more than zero and nowhere near 1. Once you add a unit then it means something. 0.01 km means 1/100 of a km or 10 m in the USA where people are a bit slack with their language they can say "I want a clearance of three thou". They PRESUME inches. So they really meant 0.003 inches. In which case they might mean 0.01 to mean 0.01 INCHES even though they didn't say it. However it is a bad habit to presume something and quite unacceptable in a science subject. Everything should be clearly and unambiguously stated. PS It reminds me of a terrible tragedy. The pilots check list showed they had a fuel load of 10000. The pilot presumed kg of fuel. However it was actually 10000 lb. So the plane ran out of fuel, crashed and everyone died. Units are essential to give any number a meaning.

It means 10^(-2). If you consider in the units of metre or length, it is 1 centimetre or 10 micrometre or 0.1 decimetre.

10-1, deci, d. 10-2, centi, c. 10-3, milli, m. 10-6, micro, it cant be mili cause mili is 10^-3 its centimeter if the unit is actually meter its 10^-2 = centi it cant be micro cause micro is 10^-6 so your answer is 0.01 = 10^-2 which is centimeter

.01 is equal to one percent in other wise its one per Unit. Per units are more convenient to use. It could be a per cent of any of the four quantity of measurement in the Universe

It has no meaning without units. It could mean 0.01 bananas for all we know if there is no cm or m symbol as units.

    It means 1% of something

Since you didn't give it a unit, it's just a number.

    Neither one.

Ten one thousandths of an inch, ten one thousandths of a millimeter, one cent. Many possibilities that can't be determined without context.

One one-hundredth of whatever the unit of measurement is. If the unit is meters, it's a centimeter.
