Google is a search engine Internet Explorer is a browser They are not the only search engine and browser, so you don t have to have either one. But you do need a browser of some type if you re going on the internet - it just doesn t have to be IE since there are others out there If you re a person who never searches for anything on the internet, then you don t "need" a search engine. For ex, my grandfather never searches anything - he just clicks on links people send him via email. But there are others besides Google - Yahoo, Bing, etc
