lightyears away. A few (dozen) years ago, it was theorised that two lesbians could make a daughter, but tests showed that apparently there must be something in a spermcell that's necessary for a zygote to grow into a morula, blastula and foetus

Real close. It is called cloning. An embryo can be transplanted into an ape, who would act as a foster mother. Nevertheless cloning primates, such as monkeys, have been really difficult. Until this year, no one has succeeded in doing so.
