Why can i hear thunder in the future on facetime?

i was on the phone with my friend, we live a block away from each other and it’s thunderstorming. i can hear the thunder on her end before it happens outside and then like 5 seconds later i hear it outside?? is she in the future?

Sound moves in waves. It just doesn’t happen. Like you see a lightning bolt far off and seconds later hear the thunder.
