Let distance from X to Y be d km Bus speed is d/6 km/h Car speed is d/4 km/h Relative speed is d/4 - d/6 =6d/24 - 4d/24 = 2d/24 = d/12 km/h Time to meet = d / d/12 = 12 hours Assuming that both started at 11:30 am :- Will meet at 11:30 pm

Let distance XY = s miles speed of car = s/4 mph speed of bus = s/6 mph closing speed = s/4 + s/6 = 5s/12 mph time to meet = 12/5 hours = 2 hours 24 mins 11:30 + 2:24 = 13:54 = 1:54

Easier to understand if we invent a distance like 240 miles. Time = 240/(approach speed of 60 + 40) = 2.4 hours 2 hours 24 minutes after 11:30 is 13:54 or 1:54pm
