No on both counts. Codeine is prescription only and pure, not mixed with aspirin or ibuprofen.

No. You will be able to tell if a product has codeine in it by looking for "codeine" in the list of active ingredients on the label. But since codeine is only allowed in prescription products, you will never see it in something you can buy over the counter. EDIT: A lot of people here seem to be confused about the difference between brand names and the names of specific drugs. Tylenol and Robitussin are brand names and can include various blends of active ingredients in the same product. Acetaminophen and ibuprofin are specific chemical compounds and so by definition they can't contain anything else. It would be like asking "does milk contain chocolate?" Yes you can make chocolate milk, but the correct answer to the question is no. Milk can be mixed with chocolate to make a different product, but milk itself doesn't contain chocolate.

Both of these CAN have codeine in them, however if they do, then they aren't sold over the counter. You have to get a prescription for them from your doctor, because codeine is a narcotic.

Only if you get it through your Dr, by prescription. The over the counter brands you listed are not sold with codeine.(in the U.S.) You can get Tylenol with codeine by prescription, but it is sold with a number, indicating the amount of codeine it contains, like Tylenol #3.

Over the counter versions of both of those medications DO NOT contain codeine. Prescription versions <<may>> contain codeine, but it will be clearly indicated

Look at the ingredients, typically not.

Codeine is a distinct medication or drug, so there is no codeine in acetaminophen or ibuprofen, BUT there can be codeine WITH each of those in a medication. The container must say so, of course. I am not sure you can buy a codeine-containing med over the counter. I think you need a prescription but I am not positive. Codeine is a controlled substance, I am pretty certain.

No and no, acetaminophen and ibuprofen are over-the-counter pain relievers. Codeine is a narcotic painkiller type medication by prescription only.
